Meteorite Experiment
This is a short video showing our progress in the 2nd phase of the MOONBOTS; A Google Lunar XPRIZE Challenge.
The team carried out some fun experiments creating impact craters in a sand pit to examine how these types of craters are formed. We used 3 differently coloured layers of sand to indicate the materials origin and show the ray system of ejected material after the impact. Our "meteorites" were steel balls of different sizes, fired with sling shots to get a maximum ammount of kinetic energy into the experiment setting.
The next step will be the creation of the lunar landscape.
To get an idea of how real moon craters and celestial bodies look like, we printed some models of craters, asteroids and the moon itself.
